Seminar Series - Book of GenesisTitle: The Book of Genesis: A Major Force in Shaping the West

When: Monday evenings in April 2012 from 6 – 8:30 pm (except April 2nd)

The goal of this course is to offer a greater understanding of the biblical book of Genesis and its role in shaping the thought of the West.It is a non-doctrinal, historical, and literary approach offering both Christian and non-Christian interpretation. Dr. Julianne Cooper will explore with you biblical views of history and time, human creation, the human condition, and divine human relationships. This course will examine how particular biblical themes have influenced art in architecture, literature, science, history and culture. Participants will attempt to understand the role of Genesis in the historical understanding of the feminine and masculine, sexuality, science, nature of man, geography, diplomacy, literature, history and much more. Please bring a Bible with you to class; other readings will be handed out each week.

The class will meet once a week on Monday evenings in April 2012 from 6:00 to 8:30pm at Liberty Harbor Academy, 1230 Elm Street, Manchester, New Hampshire. (There will be no class on April 2nd.) About the Presenter

Dr. Julianne S. Cooper, a founder of Liberty Harbor Academy, is President and Dean of the Academy. In addition to serving as President and Dean, Cooper is a faculty member in history, religion, women’s studies, theater, and art. She received a master’s of theological studies from Harvard University, a master’s of arts in medieval history, and a dual doctoral degree in both American history and European history from the University of New Hampshire.
